AN OVERVIEW OF THE CSBCL

PART I is a list of 150 behaviors related to sex and sexuality in children twelve years and younger.

PART II provides information on the child's home environment, peer relationships, and whether the child was abused or witnessed violence. Respondent's comments are requested.

PART III provides descriptive information on any worrisome sexual behaviors in which the child engaged with other children. Respondents are asked to provide written information. The final question of this section asks each respondent whether he or she thinks the child has a sexual problem.

PART IV lists 26 problematic characteristics of children's sexual behavior. The evaluator asks respondents which, if any, of the characteristics describe this child's sexual behavior and to what degree. Comments are requested so the evaluator can better understand the child's behaviors.

Treatment Exercises For Child Abuse Victims And Children With Sexual Behavior Problems

Ten treatment goals for children with sexual behavior problems are the central format of this 210 page treatment booklet. More than 50 specific and focused exercises are provided to help children and their parents meet each of the ten goals. Each exercise has four parts: the Objectives, Rationale and Purpose, Materials Needed, and Instructions. The instructions provide detailed descriptions for each exercise. A detailed chapter on teaching children the skills they need to contain their sexual and other impulsive behaviors is included. Many exercises have appealing hand-drawn exercises which can be duplicated. There are assessment instruments for: children with sexual behavior problems; parents' sexual history; family practices; boundary issues; and the parents' and children‰s attitudes about child sexuality.

Sexuality Curriculum For Abused Children And Young Adolescents, And Their Parents

This curriculum of over 50 structured exercises is for use with children six years old up to young adolescents, and their parents. It is specifically designed to combat the possible negative effects of abuse and neglect on sexual development of young people. Each exercise was designed to provide a healthy and positive understanding of sex and sexuality for youth and parents from abusive backgrounds.

The major areas of sexuality covered are: sexual values and how they are transmitted in families; the relationship between sexual attitudes and values and sexual behavior; sexual myths; sexual object choice; sexual boundaries; sexual harassment; puberty; conception; contraception; and sexually transmitted diseases. All these areas are presented using interesting and thought provoking exercises.

Exercises teach parents and youth how to differentiate between healthy sexuality and problematic sexual behaviors. Parents are taught how to talk to children and adolescents about sexuality and respond to their sexual behaviors. Youth are given tips on how to talk to their parents about sex. Children, young adolescents and parents complete valuable and informative exercises, games and role-plays together and separately. Exercises have eye-catching, appealing hand drawn graphics to encourage an energetic and enthusiastic response from young people.
