Psychotherapy
I provide psychotherapy to individuals and families. I see children, teenagers and adults. My major area of clinical work is with victims of all types of abuse.
Most of my clinical work, including my work with individuals, is in the context of the family. Even when working with adult clients, I strive to understand them intrapsychically, as well as in the context of their family of origin and their current family.
A major area of my focus within the arena of maltreatment is working with children with sexual behavior problems. Most of my research and writing has been to help understand and provide resources and therapy to children with sexual concerns as well as their parents and siblings. I have been researching and writing in this area since 1985.
Another focus of my clinical work within the arena of abuse and maltreatment is the reunification of children who have alleged abuse but the abuse has not been substantiated. There are many cases in which there is not enough evidence to warrant keeping a child separate from the alleged abuser and the courts look to someone to facilitate a safe reunion after a period of monitored visits or separation. I have written an article on this reunification process in the Journal of Child Custody and developed a game entitled Space Invaders - A Game About Boundaries to facilitate reunification in these situations.
I do not do full custody evaluations but I do the evaluations of child sexual abuse allegations that may arise during a custody dispute.
Another focus of my clinical work is on providing therapy to children post-divorce, especially when there have been allegations of child maltreatment during the marriage or post-divorce.
