Consultations on Child Sexual Abuse Victims
or Children with Sexual Behavior Problems

Consultations are provided to professionals working with sexually abused children or with children with sexual behavior problems who are living with their parents, or are in foster care, group homes, or in residential settings. The consultation can be ongoing, single, or multiple sessions. The consultation can be for assessment, treatment planning, or ongoing treatment supervision.

The Assessment Packet used in most cases consists of the following instruments.

Child Sexual Behavior Checklist - Second Revision (CSBCL) *

Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) - Parent and Teacher Forms *

Family Practices Questionnaire I and II

Adult's Sexual Behaviors As Children

Children's Sexual Behaviors: A Survey

Children's Temperament Scale

The Assessment Packet is sent to the professional with permission forms for the clients and/or agencies involved to sign authorizing the consultation. The instruments are completed and returned to Dr. Johnson at least 10 days before the start of the consultation. (When the child is in an out-of-home placement, certain instruments are not used.) The items with asterisks are analyzed using computer programs and the results are provided to the professional before the consultation. Normative data is available for most instruments. Other instruments may be added depending on the child and family’s concerns.

In addition to the instruments mentioned above, Dr. Johnson will review all relevant psychological testing, therapist’s notes, medical reports, court documents, protective service’s reports, quarterly reports from out-of-home placements, and any other documents that help illuminate the child and family’s history. If there are incident reports on the child’s behavior, the ten or twelve most recent ones and all that are relate to sexual behaviors will be reviewed. If Dr. Johnson will not be able to see the child, videos of the child and family are very useful.

During the initial consultation the results of the assessment, including a review of the data gathered on the instruments, are fully discussed and a case plan is developed.

This assessment is focused on sexual issues. It does not take the place of a full psychological assessment.

    Phone consultations are available.
