Treatment Planning Made Clear And Straightforward 

The CSBCL can now be computer scored for easy analysis of a child's sexual behaviors.  Treatment planning is greatly simplified by receiving a printout of the type, frequency and severity of the child's sexual behaviors, and a ranking of any problematic characteristics of the child's sexual behavior, as described by his/her parents/caregivers. The responses of multiple parents/caregivers can be analyzed separately or compared so that similarities and differences in their perception of the child's sexual behavior can be noted.  Decisions on the level of severity and the child's primary sexual problems are provided.
 
The Child Sexual Behavior Checklist (CSBCL) was specifically developed as an assessment tool for children twelve years and younger referred for sexual behavior problems.  Part I contains over 150 behaviors of children related to sex and sexuality ranging from natural and healthy childhood sexual exploration to behaviors of children experiencing severe difficulties in the area of sexuality. Part II asks about aspects of the child's life that might increase the frequency of sexual behaviors. Part III requests a detailed description of sexual behaviors of concern that the child has engaged in with other children. Part IV, completed by the therapist/evaluator with the parent/caregiver, is comprised of characteristics of children's sexual behaviors that raise concern.

The following domains of the child's sexual behaviors will be ranked in the order of concern noted by each
individual who completed the CSBCL.

• Interest and knowledge about gender, sex and sexuality
• Play themes include gender, sex and sexuality
• Looking, peeking
• Written and pictorial sexual expression
• Exposure of body
• Sexual talk
• Sexually premature or provocative behaviors and knowledge
• Contact behaviors-physical/sexual contact with children
• Solitary behaviors-touches self/masturbation
• Contact behaviors-Physical/sexual contact with adults
• Contact behaviors-genital contact with children
• Bowel/bladder or bathroom behaviors
• Body image
• Contact behaviors-genital contact with adults
• Preoccupation with underwear
• Preoccupied with parents' needs
• Contact with animals
• Potential gender identity issues

If a child shows any of the following problematic areas of his or her sexual development, they will be ranked in the order of severity noted by each individual who completed the CSBCL.

• Sexual development different than same- age peers
• Greater than expected emphasis on sexuality
• Adult-like characteristics
• Anxiety, guilt, or shame about sex
• Does not respond to limit setting regarding sex and sexuality
• Angry feelings about sex
• Disregard or objectification of others
• Confusion regarding sexual boundaries
• Coercion, hurting others with sex

The following will also be included in the computer generated report:

• Are there certain sexual behaviors which are important to evaluate very carefully?
• Which of the child's current sexual behaviors may make him /her more vulnerable to a child molester?
• Which sexual behaviors were previously observed but are not currently being observed?
• Are there notable differences between respondents' observations of the same child's sexual behaviors?
